JOHO TALKS ABOUT JOINING RUTO’S CAMP

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has come out to say that he is not interested in joining the Deputy President William Ruto’s political camp.

Joho who is a staunch ODM member slammed Ruto’s camp, saying he can never dream of engaging with Ruto for whatever reason.

According to Joho, Ruto has nothing to offer him politically, which is why he does not want to be associated with him in the political arena.

Joho made reference to Ruto’s ‘wheelbarrow narrative’, and asked Kenyans to watch out for poverty-mongers who had a retrogressive way of thinking.

“Why would I look for DP Ruto? So that he can give me a wheelbarrow?” posed Joho “You must be careful with people who keep on reminding you of your poverty.”

He said he only used to play with wheelbarrows when he was young, and that for a political leader to offer people the same, today, says a lot about his aim as a leader.

The Mombasa Governor urged Kenyans to listen to leaders who are focused on the development agenda aiming to transform their lives.

He further called for the unity of the Coastal region, clarifying that the movement was not only for the Arabs, Mijikenda or the Swahili people, but for every tribe that resides in the region.

Ruto’s camp which goes by the slogan ‘Hustlers’ or ‘wheelbarrow movement’, has been taking jabs from other political parties who continue to dismiss the wheelbarrow narrative.

One of the biggest critics of the hustler movement is ODM leader Raila Odinga who has accused Ruto of lying to Kenyans that he is a commoner.

Ruto has, however, defended the ‘Hustlers’ narrative terming it the new normal.

“We are not violent people. I want to change the way we are doing politics in this country by giving serious priority to the small man,” said Ruto.

On Sunday, February 7, DP Ruto promised to establish a Ksh 29 billion fund that would benefit small-scale traders like handcart pushers, grocery vendors and boda boda operators.
