I STABBED MY GRANDMOTHER 17 TIMES

At 22, many girls are thinking about school assignments, and boys. But not for 22-year-old Mercy Wangari. Inside her young mind, a gruesome murder was planned and executed- on her grandmother.

The third-year Food and Science student petrified the nation after a private investigator hired by her aunties to unearth the foul murder of her grandmother pointed her as the chief suspect. With her father Patrick as an accomplice.

But what exactly would make a young woman stab her granny 17 times with a twisted metal rod? Money.

According to the Nairobian, Mercy confessed to having stabbed Beatrice Wangari Karanja, her 72-year-old grandmother to death. Then cleaned the scene and left like it was nothing. Only to resurface like the rest of the villagers when an alarm was raised by her granny’s house help – Mary

In fact, Mary told detectives that Mercy was the first person to arrive at the scene of crime when she raised the alarm after finding the body in the bedroom with deep cuts.

Forget Steve Harvey’s ‘Family Feud’ show; Wangari’s murder exposes the real infighting in wealthy families.

It started when the family Patriarch died and instructed that his wealth be shared amongst his daughters. His son, Mercy’s father was given one property, a Buruburu house but which was still being managed by Wangari.

This made him unhappy; he wanted a freehand to manage it.

And so, he planned to do away with his mother. Who better to use than his won daughter who also loathed her grandmother for allegedly referring to them as useless?

This is despite her grandmother paying her campus fees and accommodation along Juja Road in Nairobi.

“I always felt hurt when grandmum kept reminding me how my family was useless even after she tried her best to assist my dad,” she told sleuths.

It started with an argument where she asked her granny why the matriarch showed disdain towards her, her father, and mother Susan Mumbi while having a soft spot for other relatives.

It quickly went south with Mercy overpowering her grandmother to the floor. She claims she hit her with a rod and “I must have hit her between 15 and 17 times.”

The keen help spotted blood stains on Mercy’s hair besides a fresh wound on the right index finger but Mercy told her she had cut herself when chopping vegetables.

And after grilling by sleuths, the rod, a razor, her grandmother’s face towel, and pair of shoes were recovered from the deceased’s toilet, which was ripped apart by the Kiambu fire brigade. Mercy claims she used the razor blade to cut off her grandmother’s nails to destroy any trapped DNA .

She then led the team to her father’s toilet where the dress she wore on the fateful day was retrieved.
