MAGOHA’S HARSH WARNING TO HEADTEACHERS.

Education CS George Magoha has warned headteachers that he would punish them for defying his directives. The CS added that they would also be subjected to disciplinary measures as guided by the laws.

Magoha said that the school heads were raising school fees intentionally and were also extorting parents through outrageous charges.

The CS had earlier on ordered the institution heads not to increase fees nor send the students home as parents were grappling with the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“There are headteachers who are unlawfully increasing fees.

“They should desist before we expose and punish them,” Magoha said while addressing the media at Embu County Primary School on Friday, January 15.

Some schools were accused of imposing mandatory lunch fees despite the Education Ministry directing that the fees should be optional.

Parents were also asked to pay for desks yet the government provided the equipment through a Ksh 2 billion project.

Magoha also responded to the school heads who lamented that schools may plunge into a crisis  due to a shortage of funds.

They claimed that the CS declined to release enough funds and instead only provided Ksh 19.5 billion  which is meant to cover all four terms in 2021.

The Education Ministry said that it released Ksh 4.6 billion for primary schools and Ksh 14.6 billion for secondary schools

“Those claiming that money has not been released are making baseless allegations,” Magoha defended his ministry.
