JKIA CLOSED

In a statement on Saturday, January 16, the Kenya Airport Authority (KAA) stated that Terminal 1B and Terminal 1C would be inaccessible to flight operators and their passengers.

“All flight operations previously in T1B and T1C have now been migrated to Terminal 1A and Terminal 2,” the authority stated.

Lufthansa German Airlines, Qatar Airways, Ethiopia Airlines, RwandAir, Air Mozambique, Air Arabia, Turkish Airlines, Egypt Air, British Airways will operate at Terminal 1A.

Terminal 2 will serve passengers travelling using Air Uganda, UNHAS and Emirates.

“The terminals will remain closed to pave way for renovation works to upgrade the airport and improve on the passenger experience,” the authority stated.

KAA assured that is was working closely with all its partner airlines and other stakeholders at JKIA to provide a seamless travel experience

The refurbishment exercise is expected to take 12 months at a cost of Ksh963 million.

When complete the terminals will have improved check-in, security screening, retail operations as well as lounge experience for departing passengers.

The passenger flow will be enhanced due to the centralisation of security screening procedures and the reallocation of available floor spaces to international departure gates.

KAA acting CEO Alex Gitari noted that the refurbishment aims to improve customer experience in the airport.

“The remodeling project is an integral part of the ongoing JKIA Customer Service Improvement Plan (CSIP) which was formulated from feedback from our stakeholders and customers,” he noted.
