WOMAN NARRATES HOW SHE CARRIED HER SON’S CORPSE IN A HANDBAG.

A Kenyan woman identified as Zipporah Chiti has shared how she was forced to carry the body of her child in a handbag due to lack of funds.

The one-year-old child succumbed at a Nairobi hospital and the remains had to be transported to Kwale.

Trouble started after doctors failed to attend to her child, something that led to the childs death.

She had already used a lot of cash thus she had no more money to buy a coffin to preserve the body while being transported.

Chiti tried asking for help from friends and families but the amount collected was not enough to transport the body.

It’s then that she decided to carry the body in a handbag.

‘ I TOOK THE BODY FROM THE HOSPITAL AND PUT IT IN A PAPER AND FOLDED IT USING A LESO AND THEN PUT IT IN MY HANDBAG.

NO ONE WAS ABLE TO KNOW WHAT I WAS CARRYING, BUT MY HEART WAS HEAVY WITH SADNESS SEEING THAT POVERTY HAD FORCED ME TO TRANSPORT THE BODY IN THAT MANNER.’ SHE SAID

Upon reaching the bus station at around 7:00 pm she boarded a bus to Mombasa and throughout the journey, she let tears freely flow.

Fellow passengers were curious as to why she was crying but she had to lie that she was sick and the pain was intense.

At some point a guard had asked her what she was carrying, it is that point that Chiti thought her plan would be exposed.

‘I was scared in-case he chose to open the bag and find the body. It would have been a police case and no one would have believed me.’ Chiti sadly narrated

Upon reaching Mombasa Chiti boarded another bus and went to where her relatives were waiting for her.

They did not know that she was transporting the corpse in a handbag and were very shocked to see her with no coffin nor a car carrying the body.

On reaching the house she removed the corpse from the bag as it was already distorted due to the heat, and the long journey.

She says that the event is something she will never forget as long as she lives.
