VIDEO: 10 POLICEMEN ATTACKED BY BULLFIGHTERS.

10 police officers in Kakamega are nursing serious injuries after they were beaten up by over 500 people during a bullfighting match.

A video emerged online showing the crowd chasing the officers at the venue of the event in Malinya Stadium, Kakamega County.

The officers are said to have stormed the venue after catching wind that the stadium was crowded and that the participants did not observe the Covid-19 rules.

A group of nearly 60 police officers is said to have lobbed teargas at the crowd before it charged towards them leaving 10 injured.

The officers who were from the neighbouring sub-counties were attacked with stones and clubs at the venue.

“A contingent of 60 police officers from neighboring sub-counties of Navokholo, Mumias West, Kakamega North who came for reinforcement, approached the crowd without any provocation,” read a police statement.

The officers were attacked while heading back to their police station in an incident in which four vehicles were damaged.

The officers were taken to Shibwe Level Four Sub County Hospital where they were treated and discharged.

This comes a day after a police officer was beaten up and tied by residents  in Homa Bay Town after allegedly storming into a neighbour’s home.

The officer who was in the company of an unidentified civilian is said to have waylaid a boda boda rider who was on his way home.

The two allegedly took the boda boda rider to another home in a different village where they demanded money.

The report added that when the homeowner had no money to give, one of the suspects drew a panga and threatened to harm the boda boda rider.

Sensing danger, the fiction raised alarm,  and members of the public rushed to the scene. The residents then beat up the officer and his accomplice before tying them up.
