MYSTERY-FATHER ACCEPTS KSH 7 FOR BRIDE PRICE.

An old man from Tana River county surprised his in-laws when he rejected thousands of shillings offered as bride price for his daughter and instead demanded and accepted KSh 7 only.

Hussein Maro, 63, blessed the union between his daughter and her fiancé and allowed them to tie the knot to become a wife and a husband.

The elderly man stunned the family after he asked the two families to have a brief event and that they should not concentrate on negotiating for dowry, Nation reported.

“My fellow elders, it is a great joy to have my daughter married to a good family. Therefore as my daughter and I had already agreed, we shall take KSh 7,” he said.

The groom’s family were fascinated by his plea, causing the elders to call him aside for a private conversation.

They wondered if he meant KSh 70,000, KSh 700,000 or KSh 7000 but later decided to cancel the negotiations.

The uncle of the groom said they expected a surprise, as the fiancé of his nephew had previously hinted at it.

The low bride price, however, attracted criticism, as some wondered if the unorthodox gesture had anything to do with witchcraft.
