KENYA: MAN BOMBS HIS OWN HOUSE WITH SON INSIDE

Police in Nyakach, Kisumu County are hunting for a man who alleged blew up his house with family members inside.

The suspect, Odhiambo Ondiek is said to have set off an explosion in his house on Thursday, December 16, seriously injuring two people among them his 8-year-old son.

Area police boss Jonathan Koech confirmed the incident stating that the man committed the act at night after having a quarrel with his wife.

“A 43-year-old man Odhiambo Ondiek is said to have had a disagreement with his wife before setting up an unidentified object that blew up the house,” Koech said.

Koech added that the suspect woke up in the middle of the night and went to an adjacent room.

By the time the explosion occurred, he had already fled from the scene.

The explosion tore apart the mabati house where the man had been living with his wife and son.

A neighbour was also injured during the 4am night incident and was rushed to Avenue Hospital together with the boy.

The wife managed to escape the explosion and has since recorded a statement with the police.

She said that her husband had issued death threats after their disagreement.

Bomb squad officers were deployed to the scene to establish the cause of the explosion.

At the same time officers from the Serious Crime Unit of the National Police Service were deployed to pursue the suspect and investigate the matter.
