WOMAN DRAGS DEAD HUSBAND IN HOSPITAL.

A woman in Kericho has opened up about an incident in which she dragged her dead husband on the hospital grounds as striking health workers watched.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Saturday, December 12, the widow, Anne Achieng’, indicated that she dragged the body of her husband, Derrick Ochieng’, to the mortuary wing after he collapsed and died in an hospital.

Ochieng had been ailing since 2019 before his condition worsened in the week beginning Monday, December 7, 2020.

On Thursday, December 10, Achieng’ took him to a hospital in the county, but was turned away because the healthcare workers were on strike.

The husband collapsed and died just before she could pass the hospital to go seek treatment elsewhere.

“The doctor’s were on strike. They refused to attend to my husband, and instead told me to take him to another hospital.

“I left to take him to a nursing home, but he died. I asked them for help but they were quite reluctant. I started dragging the body on the ground. I dragged him to the road and out of shame, they brought an ambulance,” narrated Achieng’

She disclosed that it took the intervention of members of the public for her to get the assistance she needed.

The burial plans are yet to kick off with Achieng’ asking well-wishers to help her bury her husband.

“I am asking for help to bury him. I do not even have money to get him out of the mortuary,” she added.

The two were married for 25 years and were blessed with four children.

Some healthcare workers went on strike on Tuesday, December 8, over what they claimed was lack of enough funding from the state.

Some claimed they had gone for up to five months without salaries with the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) threatening a nationwide strike if talks with the state collapse.
