CS MAGOHA MISSION IN UNITED KINGDOM

Education CS George Magoha travelled to the UK to oversee the printing of both the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam papers.

A report by The Standard on Sunday, December 13, indicated that the CS embarked on the tour to assess the exam materials with KCPE and KCSE tests less than 10 weeks a way.

Magoha was accompanied by a team from the Ministry of Education and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

The trip comes even as calls mount to have the exams moderated to accommodate all the 1.9 million students expected to sit for the exam.

There are concerns that majority of students from public schools had missed out on online studies even as their counterparts from private schools underwent successful online classes.

In a previous address, the CS had assured learners that examinations would be set from areas already covered by the teachers.

The candidates will close school in time for Christmas holidays, and will be expected to resume in January.

The Ministry of Education settled on March 22, 2021 as the KCPE examinations date with its end date set for March 24, 2021.

KCSE exams are also scheduled to start on March 25, 2021 and end on April 16, 2021.

Under normal circumstances, the exams are usually carried out in November and results for both KCSE and KCPE exams released in time for Christmas celebrations.

On Saturday, December 12, in his Jamhuri Day speech, President Uhuru Kenyatta issued directives on how the reopening of schools in January 2021 should be conducted.

He warned parents against failing to comply with the January school reopening directive and tasked the Ministry of Interior to enforce the directive.

β€œTo guarantee that no child is left behind, I hereby direct and order as follows; That the Ministry of Interior shall, through all chiefs, account for all children within their jurisdictions.

β€œI direct that the Ministry of Education shall receive reports from all primary and secondary schools, regardless of the system of education, (and) details of any child or children who have not reported back to school as directed,” he stated at the address.
