MATATU PLUNGES INTO SONDU MIRIU RIVER

Two people have died on the spot after a matatu plunged into Sondu Miriu River along the Kisii-Kisumu Highway on Tuesday, December 8.

According to Kericho county police commander Silas Gichunge, the Eldoret-bound matatu collided with an oncoming lorry which was transporting mattresses.

According to Citizen TV, Gichunge said the driver of the doomed vehicle died on the spot while one traveller was pronounced dead upon arrival in Sigowet Hospital.

The police commander said he could not authoritatively name the number of people who sustained injuries in the accident but added he did send his officers to the scene of the accident.

He said a suspected brake failure could have been the reason the matatu driver lost control plunging the vehicle into the river.

The wreckage of the matatu was towed to Sondu Police Station after it was removed from the river.
