GOVERNMENT ISSUES NEW CORONA DIRECTIVES

A number of Kenyans have begun making plans to visit extended family members in upcountry with a number of bus companies recording an increase in bookings.

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa warned Kenyans pointing out that the move is bound to enhance the spread of Covid-19.

“If you are in major cities and towns like Nairobi, Mombasa or Nakuru, stay at home and celebrate Christmas with your family if possible. “If you travel, the Covid-19 cases are bound to increase during the Christmas season,” urged the former Minister for Justice.

During the festive season, a number of Kenyans residing in major towns and cities often travel upcountry as they utilise the short break to spend time with relatives.

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga urged residents to avoid crowding and eating meals at funerals as this would only escalate the pandemic.

“There will be no food at any funeral, if you are in Dandora and Kibra, please just stay there for this coming month,” noted Rasanga.

Wamalwa and Rasanga were speaking during the commissioning of the Ksh75M new Siaya County headquarters at Alego Usonga. Wamalwa also commissioned the Governor’s Park, the Ahindi Gardens, the Ambira sub-county hospital 50-bed Covid-19 isolation, a treatment unit in Ugunja as well as the new Ambira maternity.

This comes after the Inter-Faith Council for Covid-19 on Thursday, November 26 issued a new raft of guidelines for churches, weddings and funerals.

The new guidelines include curbing the age at church services from 6 to 55 years respectively and the number that will be attending funeral services was reduced 100 people with only 15 allowed at the graveside.
