MEET THE LADY WHO QUIT HER JOB TO SELL AVOCADOS ON WHATSAPP.

Joan Ruto an alumnus of University of Nairobi recently shared an experience of how she quit her ‘well paying’ job to sell avocados on WhatsApp.

Joan is a communication practitioner based in Nairobi. Speaking on how Kenyans can make money during this Corona period the lady shared an inspirational story.

Speaking to a local media, Joan revealed that she took a loan to finance the business after she hatched the idea from a Whatsapp status of a close relative.

“I was minding my business and saw my aunt sharing her avocados on her status.”

Joan reportedly used to earn a six figure salary on her job but she decided to venture into business instead.

Speaking to Capital FM:

“She was selling on wholesale and retail in Embakasi after getting them from our home in Nakuru and I wanted to get some for myself,” she recalled in an interview with Capital FM on Friday, July 10.”

Joan met with her aunt in Nairobi’s Central Business District and together with her sister they sold over 500 avocados.

After marketing the avocados on her WhatsApp the business woman made a lot of money as the customers purchased in bulk.

The business woman decided to charge on delivery and chose one day in a week to do deliveries.

Joan mentioned that she sells her product through referrals as friends refer other customers to her.

Later on, she decided to quit her job as a communication practitioner to concentrate fully on her business.
