Nyeri: Family forced to cancel funeral after body goes missing from mortuary

A family in Othaya were left bewildered when they went to collect body of their loved one.

77 year old Monica Mumbi had been taken to Nyeri Funeral Home after passing on.

When her kin travelled to the funeral home to collect their beloved, the mortuary attendants said they could not locate the body.

To the bewilderment of the bereaved family, the morgue attendants gave them a body that did not belong to their beloved.

Loise Wangari, the daughter of the deceased said the physical features of her mother did not match that of the body they were given.

“My mother was using dentures since all her teeth had gone off and they were left at home when the body was taken to the morgue.

“The body they are giving is of a woman with almost all teeth on. How could we have accepted it? she posed.

The funeral home has already apologized and pleaded for more time to investigate the matter.

Consequently, the bereaved have in turn demanded compensation from the hospital for the burial expenses incurred.
