NEW SCHOOL OPENING DATES

The Ministry of Education has said that it’s looking at new ways of revising the school calendar so that students do not miss a whole academic year because of the pandemic.

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha said this while inspecting school desks and chairs at Maragua Ridge Secondary School.

Magoha said that the ministry will also look at revising the exam timetable.

He added that once a decision is reached by the ministry, the public will be notified.

Magoha beseeched all key stakeholders in the education sector to make sure the health guidelines in combating covid-19 are adhered to.

“I’m delighted to report that in most of the schools and institutions I have visited, the managements have done their best to ensure COVID-19 protocols and followed,” said the CS.

“By next week Friday, all the desks and chairs (procured by the government) will be delivered to schools.

Quality assurance officers to conduct inspection to ensure the products delivered are of quality to match with the Ksh.1.9 billion that the government set aside.”

Prof Magoha also urged the carpenters who were given the tender to supply school furniture to deliver quality work.

5,254 secondary schools and 5,136 primary schools will benefit from the government’s desk project.
