I will teach you a lesson, a furious Kalonzo tells Raila.

Kalonzo is breathing fire nowadays. Never run the last kilometer is a phrase he has never heard. He is hurtling towards the finish line of 2022 at a breakneck speed. Hurtling might be the wrong verb considering his light fit physique.

When you are moving with that kind of speed you have total disregard of oncoming traffic. To show you are the master of the lanes you throw profanities to your nemesis. It’s an art that has been mastered by most Kenyan politicians. Although Kalonzo is too good to use profane words, he has not been kind either.

A few days after telling Ruto to be prepared for a battle of titans he is now lecturing Raila. The Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka dismissed claims by ODM that the Msambweni by election will be a walk over for the giant party. Stephen Kalonzo was saying this at the Redeemed Gospel Church in Ukunda as Wiper engaged in campaigns for the 15th December by election.

Just like he had signalled Ruto, he warned Raila to prepare for a vicious battle. We have not seen pictures of Kalonzo making Karate moves like Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua but with his current bravado and confidence, we think the former Vice President might have a black belt. In a show of sportsmanship, he is giving his opponents a fair warning before he delivers his killer punch. Whether he will win the duels is inconsequential.

Kalonzo was optimistic that Shehe Mahmoud the Wiper candidate would carry the day in Msambweni. Kalonzo did not offer a formula on how Wiper’s candidate would carry the day. The beauty of being with Kalonzo is that you can believe in magic. In 2007 he was asked how he was going to win the election with his dwindling numbers, in a chirpy confident voice he said, ‘nitapitia katikati yao.’ Maybe Shehe Mahmoud is planning the same. The end justifies the means.

The Wiper leader also did not have kind words for Jubilee. Jubilee opted not to field a candidate in the spirit of handshake. Tuju also cited the possible dissolution of parliament as another reason. “The country has very serious constitutional matters to deal with that will require sobriety and reaching across the political divides in order to navigate our beloved country across some of these challenges,” Tuju said.

DP Ruto was reportedly angry with the decision and even reportedly visited Jubilee Centre to seek answers. In the end he had to agree with the party position. In a statement the Deputy President said, “I was of a different view on the party fielding a candidate in Msambweni but because a decision has already been made and communicated to the public, we will all stand by that decision that those who had intentions of vying on a Jubilee ticket in Msambweni will now look for alternatives may be run as independent candidates or in other political parties.”
