‘I fear for my life,’ cries Speaker Elachi as she resigns as Nairobi County Speaker

In a televised briefing today, Speaker Elachi has resigned as the County Speaker of Nairobi and handed her duties to Ruai MCA John Kamangu in an acting capacity till further communication on the matter.
Citing reasons for her resignation she said, “It has been tough and I can’t hold any longer. I therefore tender my resignation and thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for giving me this opportunity to serve under his Jubilee administration.”

In a telling move of her allegiance, she threw weight on NMS and expressed faith on General Mohammed Badi to transform Nairobi County. She has had a tulmutous relationship with most MCAs and Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko. 59 MCAs had already signed in favour of her impeachment motion. Only 42 signatures are needed for such.

In what would be her last directive she ruled, “Consequently, the Assembly stands adjourned until after the long recess on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, in accordance with the assembly calendar. This adjournment applies to all committees. Accordingly, no person shall be allowed in the assembly precincts apart from a few staff.”
