POLITICS OF MULEMBE NATION.

If you visit Western Kenya and luhya land to be exact, for whistle blowing and you don’t say “vindu vichenjanga” which translates to things change then your audience might not take you kindly nor consider you a great orator.
From their great slogan, anyone who is agus_eyed will pose the question what is it that has changed in luhya land politics?
And if there are changes, then Jean_Baptiste Alfonce Karr, a French writer was right when he said that the more things change the more the remain the same.

Despite being the second largest in population, give or take 14% of Kenyas total population, composed of 20 solid tribes if you allow me to add the suba, having produced 3 vice presidents, there is no hope for anyone to be the president in 2022, 2027 and maybe 2032.
That is the state of abaluhyas, which means people from the north, yet things are not rising up north for them.

Firstly, there is no luhya political spokesperson, if you look throughout the history, kingpin is something that Is earned and not demanded. Currently Atwoli claims to be one, the same to Musalia, the same to Wetangula, the same to Wamalwa, Oparanya and Khaluale. Until and unless the charisma will descend on one of them, which is like waiting for elephant to jump, there is still a major problem.

Secondly, it’s the luhya leaders who must follow the people unlike in luo land where they not only follow their leader but worships the leader too. Not Soo long ago, when the Building Bridges initiative campaigns reached kakamega and some of the leaders like Musalia , Wetangula and Khaluale we’re against it but most people were interested in that rally, so these leaders ended up following the people at Bukhungu stadium. During general elections, luhya leaders waits for their people to choose side so that schemers can choose the same path too. This gives their presidential candidates headache when they want to contest yet they are not sure if their people will follow them.

Thirdly, the luhya people lifestyle is a bit different, they are interested in having enough food, drinks and having children. Unlike luos that feels without power you are not living well or kikuyus who are always insecure about their investments if one of their own is in power, or kalenjins who believed that without top man their youths won’t hold guns to protect them and the country, luhyas are just comfortable with three meals a day, this makes any presidential candidate to lack people who can aid them financially as investment, this kills their dreams.

Fourthly, the mashemeji effect. The rampant and wide marriage between luos and luhyas brought a political confusion in luhya land. Mostly, when a luhya man marries a luo woman, you will find that in their home they either speak kiswahili or luo, this is common in busia county. When a luhya lady gets married in luo land, they are forced to speak luo, so however it’s called mashemeji Derby, one team is gaining.
This has made 60% of luhyas currently to vote as luos, even if luhyas have candidate, beating a luo candidate in luhya land still will be like finding ice in hell.
