Kenyan woman stabs boyfriend to death after disagreement over food

Vigilance Shighi 29-year-old woman have been arrested by the police after her boyfriend was found stabbed to death on weekend in Umoja, Nairobi. Reportedly Vigilance had a disagreement over food with her boyfriend Edward Okello who is 33-years-old, before knifing him in the chest eight times. Okello was therefore rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki hospital where he died.

“While undergoing treatment, he was pronounced dead,” reads the police report from buruburu. Police added that a planned postmortem will reveal more on the nature of the injuries.

Officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the house where the incident took place in Umoja and there they found a kitchen knife believed to have been used as a murder weapon, a pool of blood in Okello’s living room was also found.

”She needs to be taken to a psychiatrist and undergo other tests before she can stand trial,” Adamson Bungei buruburu police boss said.

The alleged murderer said she acted in self-defence. She said Okello who was working as an aeronautical engineer at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport beat her up before she picked a knife and used it to defend herself.


Vigilance was expected to report in court on Monday as the investigation was still in progress. The woman cried when she was informed that her boyfriend had died. After which the responders rushed the victim to the hospital and called the police.
