Sonja Madzikanda has secured a significant role in the management of the estate left behind by late Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo following an agreement reached with his family.
Madzikanda, who was previously married to Chivayo, is set to serve as a co-executrix alongside the businessman's sister, Esther Chivayo. The agreement places the two women at the centre of the process of managing the late businessman's wealth and other interests.
According to reports published on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the agreement was reached after consultations between the interested parties. Their respective lawyers subsequently submitted the written agreement to the Master of the High Court in Harare for consideration.
Under the proposed arrangement, Madzikanda and Esther will jointly oversee the administration of Chivayo's estate.
Their responsibilities will include identifying and documenting all assets left behind by the businessman, establishing the value of his properties and business interests, and identifying any outstanding debts.
They will also be expected to address legitimate claims against the estate before overseeing the distribution of the remaining wealth to legally recognised beneficiaries.
The process will also consider the interests of Chivayo's two minor children, whom he had with Madzikanda.
The development comes amid an unresolved US$25 million matrimonial property dispute that Madzikanda had filed against Chivayo before his death. The matter was pending before the Supreme Court when the businessman died.
Chivayo died on September 30, 2026, in a helicopter crash in Marondera, alongside his wife, Lucy Muteke, and three other people.
His death left questions surrounding the management and distribution of his considerable wealth.
Although the agreement gives Madzikanda an important position in the estate's administration, it does not automatically settle her separate matrimonial property claim.
The Master of the High Court is expected to consider the agreement before the formal appointment process is completed.
