Kitengela Set for Political Showdown as Sifuna, Gachagua, Kalonzo and Wamalwa Prepare Joint Rally

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and two other opposition leaders are expected to hold a joint political rally in Kitengela town on Sunday, November 8, 2026.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa are also expected to attend the rally.

The meeting could provide an important opportunity for the four leaders to demonstrate their willingness to work together despite differences within their respective political camps

Their planned appearance comes amid growing political disagreements over the direction, leadership and organisation of the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna has increasingly attracted attention through his political activities and association with the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has been positioning itself within the broader opposition landscape.

The Nairobi senator has also remained a prominent figure in discussions surrounding the future of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following internal disagreements over the party's political direction.

Gachagua, on the other hand, has continued strengthening his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), using political rallies and grassroots mobilisation to expand his influence.

The former Deputy President has repeatedly criticised President William Ruto's administration while calling for greater political organisation among leaders opposed to the government.

Kalonzo has also maintained his position as one of the experienced figures within the opposition, having previously participated in several efforts to unite different political parties.

Wamalwa, meanwhile, has remained active in opposition politics through DAP-K, advocating for cooperation among leaders seeking an alternative political direction.

Their joint appearance could send a message about the possibility of cooperation among opposition figures despite the disagreements currently affecting their political organisations.

However, questions remain about whether the planned gathering will translate into a lasting political arrangement or simply provide another platform for leaders to express their shared concerns.

The opposition has faced increasing pressure to establish a common strategy, particularly as political discussions surrounding the 2027 elections continue gaining momentum.

Different leaders have expressed interest in building a united front, although disagreements over leadership positions, political influence and possible presidential arrangements remain major challenges.

The November 8 gathering will consequently be watched closely for indications of the opposition's next political direction.
